In Ms. Tyrie’s Sports Marketing and Business Management class, we were given the task of creating our own sports team and developing a marketing plan. We learned the vocabulary associated with the process, created a budget, and became familiar with marketing concepts. The team our group came up with was the Oregon Whales, a fictional NFL team. We gave a presentation about the team and how we would achieve short, intermediate, and long-term goals. For example, we would market shirts, hoodies, and jerseys, with limited-time discount offers. It was a great project because we all learned about economic forces and marketing concepts. I now look at professional sports teams with new insights. It felt great when we won the competition!
